Clare Liening

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Clare Liening joined LE&A in April 2014 as a senior associate, and specializes in education, nonprofit, health care services and public affairs. Through her work at LE&A, Clare has supported the efforts of a variety of clients from schools and community service organizations to health care and financial services organizations. She has coordinated mass media announcements, secured on-site coverage of client activities and planned large-scale events. Her areas of expertise include media relations, writing, copy editing, event planning, and project management.

Clare began her work at LE&A by supporting a wide variety of nonprofits and associations. One of her most significant accomplishments was assisting the Michigan Association of United Ways, which serves approximately 60 local United Ways throughout Michigan, in releasing a report on the state’s Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) population. The effort involved engaging and leveraging voices of the ALICE population, working in advance of the release with targeted media, and developing a statewide release of the report. The announcement resulted in widespread print, broadcast and online media coverage, including the Associated Press, the Huffington Post, Michigan Radio, MLive and others.

Clare also helped plan the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB) Walk a Mile in My Shoes Rally, which brings thousands of people to the Capitol Building in Lansing to advocate for mental health awareness. For this event, she developed informational materials for participants, organized the keynote speaker and necessary on-site equipment, and developed a media relations strategy that resulted in coverage with WLNS-TV, WSYM-TV, Lansing State Journal, WILS-AM, and WJIM-AM, among others.

Prior to joining LE&A, Clare served as a senior communications advisor for the Michigan Senate Democratic Caucus, where she worked directly with various State Senators to develop and implement communications strategies to aid them in communicating with their colleagues and constituents.

Clare has served as co-chair of the Young Professional Alzheimer’s Advocates of Lansing, a professional advisor for Michigan State University’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), was on the committee for Association for Corporate Growth NextGen and volunteered for three years as a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

A graduate of Michigan State University, Clare earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a specialization in public relations. In 2016, she received intermediate high certification in the Spanish language from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
