Lansing, Michigan (March 5, 2013) – With the 2013 baseball spring training underway, a majority of likely Michigan voters, recently polled by Lambert and Denno Research, say the Detroit Tigers will win the 109th edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series. More than 54 percent of respondents say they believe the Tigers will win the World Series, according to a statewide poll released Tuesday by Lambert, Michigan’s largest bipartisan public relations firm.

When 600 participants were asked if the Tigers will triumph in the World Series in October 2013, only 25 percent of all poll respondents said no, while 20 percent of respondents said they did not know or they were unsure.

“It’s exciting to see the support for Michigan’s oldest and most beloved professional sports teams,” said Jeff Lambert, president and managing partner of Lambert “After a successful 2012 season for the Tigers and a World Series appearance, it is apparent that our state is confident with the Tigers’ chance for a World Series Championship this season.”

The Detroit Tigers finished the 2012 regular season with an 88-74 record. The Tigers defeated the Oakland Athletics in the American League Divisional Series, 3 to 2, marking Detroit’s second consecutive ALDS win. The Tigers then swept the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series before being defeated by the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.

The Detroit Tigers will enter the 2013 season with a solid lineup, including reigning Triple Crown and MVP winner Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and the addition of Torii Hunter on the offensive side, in addition to the talented pitcher Justin Verlander.
“Baseball fans are most optimistic during spring training, and Tigers fans are ready for a world championship,” said Dennis Denno, president of Denno Research. “It would be awesome if the 54 percent of respondents were right because it would be a great boost to everyone in Michigan.”
