GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Feb. 26, 2013 – Michigan’s only statewide public relations firm, Lambert, Edwards & Associates (LE&A), today announced it has added one of the nation’s premiere university innovation clusters to its growing roster of clients.
Michigan’s University Research Corridor (URC) – consisting of Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University — is focused on transforming, strengthening and diversifying the state’s economy through supporting innovation, educating students, attracting talented workers to Michigan and encouraging the transfer of technology to the private sector. The alliance’s economic impact on Michigan is $15.5 billion, according to a just-released study by Anderson Economic Group.
“We’re excited to share our experience at the local, regional and national levels in promoting the URC’s enormous economic contributions to Michigan’s economy,” said Jeff Lambert, LE&A president and managing partner. “The URC is a unique collaboration with remarkable potential, and we’re looking forward to working with the three universities to spread the word about how their efforts are making a difference in Michigan’s competitiveness, economic sustainability and capacity for innovation.”
LE&A will develop and implement strategies for elevating the URC’s profile and supporting its objectives at the state, regional and national levels. The firm will provide the URC with a wide array of services, including marketing communications, social media development and public affairs, leveraging its deep experience with the multiple industry sectors – including automotive, education and health care – addressed by the URC. LE&A’s focus will include helping the URC tell its story to businesses, policymakers, key opinion leaders, the media, taxpayers, investors and higher education officials, as well as the administrators, faculty and students at the three URC universities. LE&A recently connected researchers and reporters at the North American International Auto Show to discuss how research at the three URC universities is making its way into innovations in vehicles using alternative energy and autonomous vehicles.
URC Executive Director Jeff Mason said, “We selected LE&A because of its unique combination of strengths in Michigan, on the national stage and in the key markets on which we focus. We’re excited about the tremendous opportunity we have to grow the awareness and impact of the University Research Corridor, and believe the talent and expertise at LE&A will help get us there.”
The URC’s primary focus includes improving the understanding of the vital role the three universities have played, and will play, in revitalizing the state’s economy. The trio already draws more than 90 percent of the federal academic research dollars coming into Michigan, enrolls more than 137,000 students and graduates a high percentage of students in the science, technology, math and engineering fields . The URC wants to help the universities continue to expand their outreach and collaborative efforts, accelerate technology development and transfer, and communicate the many advantages of doing business in the state of Michigan.
